Cartier Santos Ref. 2961 with box & booklet
A defining icon of Cartier’s design language, the Santos remains one of the most recognisable watches ever created, its bold silhouette and exposed screws forever tied to the pioneering spirit of aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont.
Introduced in 1978, reference 2961 marks the very first Santos fitted with an integrated bracelet, and the maison’s first pairing of steel and gold, laying the foundation for the modern Santos collection. This example, produced circa 1980s, carries that origin story with it.
Preserved in particularly good condition, the white lacquered dial displays the original Roman numerals, framed by a railway minute track. The dial has developed some cracks over time, adding character without compromising its overall presentation. Blued hands stand in elegant contrast against the white surface, a signature touch of Cartier’s design.
The watch retains its first-generation bracelet, fitted with the Cartier-signed clasp bearing the maison’s logo, and fits a 16.2 cm wrist.
Recently serviced by our watchmaker, this piece comes with its original box and Santos booklet.
