Longines Ultra-Chron Ref. 8317 Circa 1970
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Longines Ultra-Chron was among the first wristwatches to beat at 36,000 vibrations per hour, roughly twice the usual frequency of its time. Longines promoted it as “the world’s most accurate watch”, guaranteeing an accuracy of about one minute per month.
Produced in the early 1970s, this reference 8317 is housed in a 35.5mm stainless steel case. The matte grey dial is finished with a crosshair and carries the applied Longines logo and Ultra-Chron signature, while bold, stepped indexes bring volume and depth to a dial that remains clean and highly legible. The watch is fitted with a steel Milanese mesh bracelet, which allows the size to be adjusted precisely to the wrist.
At its core is the automatic calibre 431, serviced by our watchmaker, a high-beat movement with central seconds and a date at three o’clock, whose sweeping seconds hand moves with notable smoothness.
A refined piece of 1970s horology, where technical ambition and futuristic design meet, presented in very nice and original condition.
